Posted by design | Under Marketing, design, web Thursday Sep 2, 2010
Just about everyone swooned for Sofia Vergara of ABC’s “Modern Family” when she walked the Emmy Awards red carpet on Sunday. Vergara looked like an award herself in a pale yellow Carolina Herrera strapless gown embellished with gold and silver sequin detail. She teamed up with hair care brand Suave Professionals to let America choose her red carpet hairstyle for the evening and her classic glamour girl curls were chosen by votes and styled by Suave Professionals Celebrity Stylist Jenny Cho.
Sofia’s entire award show style (sans jewels of course) – the dress and the Suave Professionals products used to create the winning look are up for bid through Clothes Off Our Backs, the charity that auctions off celebrity items for good causes. Proceeds from the auction benefit Clothes Off Our Back’s charities including Feeding America, Malaria No More, Hope North, AbilityFirst, Villa Esperanza and Alex’s Lemonade Stand. The auction ends September, 13, 2010 and bidding starts at $1,000.

Apple spots celebrate new iPod touch, nano
Posted by design | Under Marketing, design, web Thursday Sep 2, 2010As you may have heard, Apple had a little event today where it unveiled a revamped line of iPods and a new version of AppleTV. Here are two brand-new ads from TBWA—one for the iPod nano below, and one for the iPod touch after the jump. The iPod shuffle got hosed, as usual, getting a makeover but not a new commercial. UPDATE: The featured songs are “Short Skirt, Long Jacket” by Cake and “Come Home” by Chappo.
Psychological Study: Old People Enjoy Hearing about Young People Being Stupid

Researchers in Germany examined what news stories older people like to read. They found that grandma and grandpa tend to prefer stories that cast younger people in a negative light:
“Living in a youth centered culture, they may appreciate a boost in self-esteem. That’s why they prefer the negative stories about younger people, who are seen as having a higher status in our society,” said Dr. Silvia Knobloch-Westerwick, of Ohio State University.[...]
All the adults in the study were shown what they were led to believe was a test version of a new online news magazine. They were also given a limited time to look over either a negative and positive version of 10 pre-selected articles.
Each story was also paired with a photograph depicting someone of either the younger or the older age group.
The researchers found that older people were more likely to choose to read negative articles about those younger than themselves

Posted by design | Under Marketing, design, web Thursday Sep 2, 2010
Just when you thought the only differences between the iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch were the size and the phone, a closer look reveals that the Touch actually has a different camera.
Apple’s specifications page for the Touch lists a resolution of 960-by-720 pixels for the rear camera, which is roughly one megapixel. That’s several steps below the 5-megapixel camera seen in the iPhone 4.
Then again, the iPod Touch is about one millimeter thinner than the iPhone 4 (which is significant when it comes to pocketability). Anything bigger than a one-megapixel sensor probably would have been a squeeze, especially when you consider that the Touch includes a front-facing camera, too.
When Apple refreshed its iPod family last year, many expected the iPod Touch to gain a camera and were left disappointed when it didn’t. However, a teardown by iFixIt revealed that was just barely enough room for a camera. iFixIt CEO Kyle Wiens speculated that the feature was omitted due to engineering challenges.
Long story short, the iPod Touch’s camera probably isn’t great, but we’re glad it’s finally here.

"It’s Nice That" blog goes to print

As various print magazines like Gourmet scramble to reinvent themselves as Ipad apps, we are happy to see that some people still believe a physical printed product can be quite nice. A staple in our daily blog roll of creative delights, It’s Nice That, is going against the grain with the fourth issue of their bi-annually printed publication. The publication serves as an archive of the blog’s best editorial content, as well as a venue for more in-depth stories, and this issue sounds juicy with features, tons of work, and interviews with Neville Brody, Miranda July and others.
Issue #4 is now available for pre-order, with an incentive for those who appreciate cute illustrated blob-men and the lovely details in printed matter: a free screenprint by James Jarvis (two-color with spot UV gloss, unfolded at 185 x 245 mm).

Good thing Bill Clinton gave up chowing down on Big Macs. It appears 3G Capital Management–the firm where daughter Chelsea Clinton's new hubby Marc Mezvinsky works as an investment banker–is trying to scoop up McDonald's rival, Burger King, and take it private.
